Nachbil Grunspitz
- O
- O
An orange wine made from the Grunspitz variety, Nachbil believe theirs is the only dedicated grafted Grunspitz vineyard in the world. Produced in the Crişana & Maramures region of Romania.
This thick-skinned, small-berry wine is a regional oddity that’s very unique. It is made from handpicked, dry-farmed, organically grown grapes with nothing added. The grapes are macerated on skins for 4 days in open vats and spontaneously fermented with no addition of yeast. The wine is then stored for 6 weeks in three amphorae, a historical clay wine maturing pot with different levels of porosity. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
It is pale amber in appearance, quite obviously an orange wine. It has intriguing and complex aromas of Seville orange and rose petals with savoury, slightly nutty notes. Structured and assertive on the palate, the initial tannic grip soon gives way to a ripe, textural palate with compelling minerality, dried apricot and citrus peel flavours, and an appetisingly tangy finish.
